In year 5 we have been learing how to use Excel! On Excel we have been learing to use a formula to solve money problems. Also we were set off to create a spreadsheet for a sleepover with the cost, quantity and what it was. We are still working on spreadsheets.
Next week we are welcoming members of the community into our ICT room at school as part of a nationwide initiative called Spring Online. The idea is that if you want to learn about anything “computery” then you can come in to school, meet parents and our Digital Leaders and feel happy that you know a little bit more!
Our sessions are:
Monday 22nd April from 1.30 to 3.30
Wednesday 24th April from 10 to 12
Friday 26th April from 1.30 to 3.30
All of this is totally free – if you are interested just come along to the main entrance of Swanmore Primary School and you will be directed to the library for refreshments. From there you will be soon be invited into the ICT room to begin your exciting new learning.
So what are you waiting for?
On Tuesday 26th March it was the first ever year 5 games zone evening in the I.C.T suite. Because it was coming up for charity day, we asked for a small donation from the parents. All of the money raised will be added to Thursday’s final amount and sent to our school charities. We managed to raise roughly £45. We all enjoyed the evening and the parents were extremely impressed by our games and they loved to see how hard we had been working on them.
We paired up with someone from Mrs Mundy’s class and we worked from break to lunch and we all worked our very best to make a hard but not impossible game (which were catching, collecting or journey). Most people did ‘collecting’ because that was the most fun. There was a couple of people who did journey but know one did catching. Everyone enjoyed the evening and we hope that year 5 next year do the same and raise just as much if not more.
Today is Safer Internet Day. We have been thinking about keeping safe on the internet. First of all we thought about all the things we love about the internet. We used a site called tagxedo.com to create a word cloud.
Next we watched a film clip about keeping your personal details private when online. The next thing we will think about is ‘Top 10 Tips for keeping safe on the internet’ What tips would you suggest?
Code Club meets every Wednesday to learn about coding animations and games using a programming language called Scratch.
Today we made a program called Whack a Witch which is a bit like Whack a mole but with witches! After we had coded the basic program we all made our own changes to personalise it! William added background music to his and changed some of his witches to have cats on their broomsticks. Roo decided his witches would be on a tropical beach instead of a dark and gloomy sky. Alana changed the points scored for whacking her witches depending on how fast they were moving and William R is well on the way to making his a 2-level game with different backgrounds for each level.
Take a look at some of our games!
We had a great time and can’t wait to make our fireworks game next week!
In maths we used a program called 2DIY to make Pairs games to help us learn some of our number bonds.
Click on the links below to play our games. Why not play again and see if you can beat your time?
On every Wednesday at lunchtime Year 5 and 6 have Computer Club with Mrs Dingley. For the last two weeks we have been working on a program called Google Sketchup which is a programme where you can design anything you want! Its great fun and we hope to keep working on it for weeks to come. So far we have designed things like planes, houses and other imaginary vehicles. We added colours and textures to our walls today and used the orbit tool to look at our model from all directions.
On Wednesday lunch times we do a club for year 5 and 6 called Computer Club. We are learning how to use a program called Scratch. We are learning how to program a creature called a Sprite. We can make him twist around, move across the screen , change colour and even talk!
Why don’t you come along next time!
