Year 5 Curriculum Update


We started the term by building our addition and subtraction skills and are getting more efficient with mental and written methods.  We have now moved on to geometry and are enjoying investigating properties of different quadrilaterals as well as measuring and drawing angles using protractors.


We are studying the Anglo-Saxon epic poem, Beowulf, using a variety of texts and film.  We have written a plea for help and a hero’s boastful tale.  We have focused on using precise vocabulary and a range of sentence structures to find the voice of our characters.

What Y6 have been up to!

Happy New Year! We have had a very busy first few weeks of the Spring term. Y6FH have successfully completed their water safety program, and Y6M are looking forward to their 2 sessions over the following two Wednesday afternoons. Don’t forget swim hat and bathers!

In Maths we have been revising angles and long multiplication and in English, we have been looking at poetry. We created our own cinquain about space and the moon. Look out for the homework this weekend on writing ‘Ten Happy Astronauts’ based on a similar poem on the reverse of the sheet.

In Art we used chalk to draw our own moonlit night scene. This week we visited Winchester Science Museum which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
This week we have been busy with practice SAT papers in maths, reading and EGPS.

Y5 Curriculum Update

In English we have continued to read The Silver Sword, exploring new vocabulary found and interpreting the feelings and motives of the characters. Written work has included a detailed first person account using “ADD SPICE” openers for variation in our sentences.

In maths we have started to explore angles and 2D shape, revising acute, obtuse and straight and adding reflex angles to our knowledge. We had some interesting discussions when defining polygons, especially when identifying regular and irregular shapes.

Y1 Blog


This week we have been learning about different sources of light and discussing which things do not make their own light – for example, the moon. We have been writing noun phrases to describe… flickering flame, shining star… and began to discuss ‘verbs’ as action words.

We will continue with the theme of light in the next two weeks to come, learning about Hannukah – the festival of light and Christingle – celebrated by Christians.


Recently we have been partitioning 5, 6, and 7 into two parts. We moved onto missing number/symbol sentences and some of us solved a tricky problem about buying different fruits to equal 7p.

We have started practicing our songs ready for our up-coming Christmas performances and have been allocated the parts we will play. Please check your child’s book bag for a letter regarding the costume they will need.

Year 2 curriculum update

Year 1

Having finished our diary writing about ‘The Great Fire’, Year 1 have now turned their attention towards Christmas! We have just begun to read ‘The Fox’s Tale’ by Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen. It is a gorgeous re-telling of the Christmas story from the viewpoint of the fox and we are using this to create our own version over the coming two weeks.

We have also been developing our multiplication skills by building arrays and telling stories. This will give us the visual images on which to hang our learning of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

Along side this, lots of time is being spent learning our lines and singing our songs, ready the performances of our Christmas production.



Y4 Curriculum update

Hi all,

The Year 4 have been enraptured by the Iron Man of late. We have even attempted to write compound and complex sentences (a work in progress) all about him. Then just when we thought it was safe to go down to the scrap yard a huge terrifying Space-bat-angle-dragon flies out of space and demands food! We can’t wait to find out what happens next. Will the Iron Man save us all?

In maths we have spent time getting to grips with the multiplication tables  – array (pun on hurray). We are now getting up close and friendly with fractions.

We are looking forward to seeing you at parents evening to tell you all how great your children are.

Year 6 Update

Hi everyone!

In English over the past two weeks, we have been busy writing, editing and publishing our stories of Odysseus and the Sirens.

In Maths, we have been using a range of methods to multiply and divide up to 4 digit numbers. This week we also showed off what we can do in a series of challenges (old SATs papers).

We have worked really hard this week and all deserve a break – luckily it’s half term! See you in nine days!

Year 3 Curriculum Update


Continuing to take inspiration from James and the Giant Peach, we have been working hard to improve our writing by beginning sentences in different ways by using adverbs, -ing words, -ed words etc (we call this ADDSPICE).  In addition, we have engaged well with Roald Dahl’s detailed description in order to infer thoughts and feelings to show our understanding of character.


We have been working hard to develop our multiplication and division skills, using repeated addition and known multiplication facts, grouping and sharing.  We have then applied our understanding in order to solve problems.

We have also enjoyed the opportunity to lead the KS2 Harvest Service in church – we hope that you enjoyed it too.

Year 5 Curriculum Update


We have been  writing our persuasive brochures to sell our newly designed Roman Villas, and we are continuing to develop our reading skills through our class readers, The Boy Who Swam with Piranhas and Why the Whales Came.


We have continued to develop our addition and subtraction skills, solving a variety of word problems in real life contexts.  We have practised rounding in order to check that our calculation answers are reasonable.   We continue to progress through our multiplication tables – keep practising at home!

Year 2 curriculum update


Year 2 have become estate agents, designing and marketing their newly designed properties.

We are looking forward to welcoming our visitors at 3pm on Tuesday where they will be able

to read the brochures we have written.



During the past two weeks we have finished our unit on place and value and begun  work on

adding and subtracting. We are checking that we know all our facts to 20 by heart and have

tried some tricky problems as well.
